Aristagorae et Herod. 1. 5. est αἰχμὴ βραχεῖα, hasla brevis, qua Persae olim usi. Certe Hebr. Gap desc: Hebrew, unde vox Graeca orta, permutatione l. et n. proprie est spica, inde ad hastile translatum nomen. Quomodo spicula Isidoro sunt sagittae vel lanceae breves, ab spicasum specie nuncupatae, Orig. l. 17. c. 8. Et Gallice hastam Turnebus picam, quasi spicam, vocari putat, quod ferrô spicata sit exiguô; Bochartus, quod spicae formam habeat. Memmit inter arma Persarum hastilium huiusmodi, ut diximus; Herod. l. 5. ubi iis tribuuntur τόξα καὶ αἰχμὴ βραχεῖα. arcus et hasta brevis; et l. 7. de exercitu Xerxis, αἰχμὰς βραχείας, τόξα δὲ μεγάλα, hastas breves et magnos arcus, illis fuisse, itidem ait. Quemadmodum Alexandrum scribit Athenaeus d. l. cum Persica stola gestâsse, τό τε τόζον, καὶ τὴν σιβύνην, arcum etiam et sibynam: plane ut Graeca Versio Ierem. loc. cit. τόξον καὶ ζιβύνην κρατήσουσιν. Id ipsum prro Persarum telum, ab aliis παλτῷ κρανεΐνῳ, pilo e corno, instructum fuisse, ait: et l. 1. ac 4. ubi singulis, praeter arcum et pharetram, bina παλτὰ assignat, Arriano l. 1. Aliis.
